I’ve been pondering a world where we use natural spoken language for all computer interactions. I have used a keyboard and mouse all my life, so it is an adjustment to speak rather than type. Over New Years 2025, I had a week alone at home, while my family traveled. I thought I might experiment.
This story describes a transformational experience with Advanced Voice Mode in ChatGPT.
Here’s what happened:
Friday Night
📱 I logged into GPT on my phone, donned my Bose headphones, and asked for advice on Voice interaction. After eight simple tips, I started a new thread with a foundational voice prompt: “Summarize my startup’s strategy and status.”
✅ Within seconds, I heard the usual, accurate summary. (In ChatGPT, see Settings, Personalization, Memory). When GPT first included a reference to my son in an unrelated chat, it freaked me out. Now, I love that GPT has an up-to-date understanding of my business, as a foundational context, from which to help me with any new idea.
After the start-up summary, our conversation then shifted into a brainstorming discussion:
Saturday Morning
🔍 Some quick research revealed I’d been using Advanced Voice Mode, which reacts to emotion, emphasis, and cadence. The experience felt so dynamic!
Saturday Night
📱 Back to continue the conversation. Before starting, I gathered my thoughts using cutting-edge technology: a pen and notebook!
💥 That’s 150 URLs in one go—delivered in real-time by voice! We know LLMs can crank out lists but hearing one read-aloud, rapid-fire, had me laughing uncontrollably.🤣 My cat was concerned for me! 🙀
Again, I had to pause and regain my composure.
And then it hit me: What do I even do with this?
💡A Light Bulb Moment💡
I shifted gears and asked ChatGPT to:
📋 Organize all of our ideas, from both nights of discussion, into a brief summary with reasoning behind the structure. ✅ Then…
📝 Write a two-page essay reflecting on everything we’d discussed.
As GPT read the essay aloud, I was stunned by the clarity and depth.
Then, in true Ghostbusters fashion, like Ray Stantz (Dan Akroyd) muttered before the Stay Puft ⛄Marshmallow Man appeared, “it just…. popped into my head.”
🎞️ “Please create a slide deck that sells the concepts in the essay!”
💥 Boom. Done in seconds.
Are those two outputs perfect? No.
Helpful? You cannot imagine!
Monday Morning
During the standing Monday call with my partner, we:
Reflecting on the Experience
This wasn’t just helpful—it was truly transformational. To have a real-time, emotionally responsive Strategy Agent verbally discuss concepts, then produce an essay and a slide deck in seconds, lead me further into the future of work, where we use AI as a Creative Thought Partner.
💬 If you’re curious about what’s possible with GPT Advanced Voice Mode, try it. You might just find yourself doubled over in laughter— or at a new strategic milestone on your entrepreneurial climb!
Update: Since that weekend, I am using voice input more-and-more often. It takes practice. For example, try voice recording to a google doc, then using ChatGPT to clean up and format. Its amazing!
